D4: Banners

In a magical world a banner can do far more than just boost the moral of the soldiers that fight for it. Here are d4 effects that a banner can provide to its allies. If something wishes to destroy a banner they typically have 7 HP and an AC equal to 13 plus the wielder’s dexterity modifier.

  1. Bolster. As an action, the banner bearer can grant allies within 30 feet 5 temporary hit points that last until the beginning of the banner bearer’s next turn.
  2. Resilience. All creatures that serve under the banner may add a d4 to all saving throws while they are within 30 feet of it.
  3. Expeditious. As an action, the wielder of the banner can allow allies within 30 feet of the banner to use their reaction to move up to their movement speed. If this movement would provoke an attack of opportunity, the attack is made at disadvantage.
  4. Despair. An enemy of the banner holder that starts its turn within 30 feet of the banner or enters within 30 feet of the banner for the first time on their turn must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or take 1d4 psychic damage and have disadvantage on their next attack roll before the end of its turn.
